My H1453 is very close to the catalog description. It has the same shaped headstock as the one pictured but has a plastic overlay with the engraved vine motif. The tail piece looks like the metal ones on the 1415's, not sure how its compensated. The neck is huge, has a rosewood fingerboard with rectangular pearl like markers. It may be steel reinforced but no truss rod. Same pick-guard and bindings. It has 3 separate stamps inside the body: 4847 H1453 and S40. - Thomas - 2014-11-16
Mine is just like what your describing , it has an S40 stamp , and as a serial number mine indicates 332 1453 . No H in it , it has the vine headstock . The 332 prefix would indicate the date of manufacture , my grandmother purchased this guitar in 1933, and played it at her senior talent show , it still plays wonderfully , has great action ! - Rick - 2015-01-17
I have a similar model, but mine has bird's eye maple back and sides with tortoise shell binding around the edges. It has the same headstock and wooden tailpiece. It also came with what looks like the original rope/lariat strap. - Ken - 2018-08-15
Mine has the 332-1453 as well/ vine headstock. Was my dads until now. Great piece of history
