I found one of these in some one else's garbage in 1968, when I was in Grade 2. It was four more years until I learned how to play a chord. I kept it for years until I took it camping and one of my young son's friends filled it with sand. The back came off and it went back to where it came from, the garbage. This time for good. - Don Lummus - 2007-11-20
My older Brother, Joe.. bought one of these brand new in 1959 from Bob Dunn's Music in the Houston Heights..total price, $19.95. After he decided he couldn't learn to play it in a couple of days.. he gave it to me..by which time I had already learned "C","F" and "G" chords, and was working on some more. For some unexplained reason.. I sold it to a high-school buddy in 1962.. Wish I had of had better sense.. but... - Big Pappy - 2008-04-30
I just picked up a near mint 1959 H928 w/ the black tuners. Got it off e-bay for $145 including shipping. Still has the Bruno Musicial Instruments sticker on the body as well. It's for my new baby daughter Stella's wall and daddy will probably enjoy it until she can :) - 2L82D8 - 2009-06-08
Well I can't believe it...there she is. I have had my Stella H928 for 34 years. Never knew until today she is a collectible. My 17yr old son has taken up the craft. I was never very good. He'll be glad to know he has a jewel. - bart - 2009-12-07
I found one in my neighbors trash in 2007. There was a rats nest in the sound hole. With a little cleaning and new strings it works again. - Hornet - 2010-03-24
A guitar true value may be more than just its price. I found one of these in 1962 in the trash, it had three strings, but I couldnt wait to show it to an old man I knew who played the guitar. He gave me three new strings and taught me my major chords. Guitar playing has been an adventure ever since. Thanks for the strings James. - CHRIS HANSON - 2010-06-11
JUST WANTED TO SAY THANKS FOR ALL THE HARD WORK YOU OBVIOUSLY PUT ON THIS SITE....GREAT INFO AND ACCESS... - Mike - 2010-06-22
An old fella gave me his today. He cant hear or sing too well anymore. I play in a metal band and have been doing computer work for him for quite a few years so today he gave it to me.. - Ronnie Corvair - 2010-09-30
This was my first axe. I've been searching for it for many years. Great to see the picture ! Thank you. - Leigh - 2010-10-08
Hi! Mine looks like this, but it says H7026 on the inside. F-60-NK any ideas? - PonyBoy - 2010-12-06
This was my first Guitar when I was 12 from a pawn shop on 5th ave between 8 and 9th streets and to me it sound pretty cool. Later My dream Guitar was the Harmony Monterey with the red sunburst and the checker black and white binding.. never got it, but dreamed for it for a few years. then I decided to be a guitarist. I played with Chuck Berry,Wilbur Harrison/Going to Kansas City song guy,George Benson, Jamed with Jimmy Hendrix and Played with Elvin Jones, John Coltrane's Drummer.. then I stopped playing cold turkey for the next 35 years.. I still own a 1956 Gibson Es 225 TD ( Blond with two P-90 Pickups) Think'n about play again PS: I paid $ 15 Dollars for the Stella H928 and the Pawn Shop was in Brooklyn NY The neck was almost straight and the sound was OK, but not like the Monterey. The Stella Got me into Music and made a big niche in my life so I say yeah Stella baby you were my first love! Where are you NOW? - Rob - 2011-01-05
I have one of these with black tuners, about 95 out of 100, very crisp sound. I wonder can anybody tell me what S48 stamped inside means. Somebody told me it meant made in 1948 but the guitar is tow clean to be 60 plus years old. Also, how heavy a string has anybody put on. I have very light strings but would like to go fatter for the sound. Many thanks - bunny - 2011-01-09
wow.its great to see this old guitar that my dad had when i was growing up.my dad passed away only a year ago, and would have gotten a kick to know its collectible. it still has original strings but the body is in terrible shape.maybe we should refurbish it. - MDLMUSIC - 2011-02-03
I just picked up a 1959 H928 from the Goodwill Store for $20. Strings were so old and rusty they were probably on there for 52 years. It looks to be in great shape, except that the heel is slightly separated from the body, but I think I can fix that with a little wood glue. I had a sunburst Stella back in 1959 when I was 6 years old. 52 years later I'm still playing guitar in a rock and roll band every weekend. Thank God for Stellas. - d.stone - 2011-06-01
i have a stella that looks exactly like the h928 the ivory faux flame. except it's stamp inside reads 954 h929. on the head is written stella. it doesn't have the steel reinforced logo. - Big Bo - 2013-02-21
I found my H928 in a small guitar shop in Clarksdale Ms. 2 years ago, paid 200 USD for it. I think it is an early model, it just says Stella on the headstock. Must be around '45-'49 according to the shop owner. It is in almost mint condition. Very playable neck with extremily low action and no frets that make ugly noises. The guitar looks as if it was not being used much. All I had to do was set up a new set of strings and use some fine lemon oil on the dry fretboard and it played very smooth right away. I play traditional blues from the 30's and the 40's and this guitar just sounds like the real deal. I took it back to Holland and used it ever since in my live shows and studio recordings.

just picked one up for $125, in near mint condition. Believe its a 56'. login it so far, great delta blues tones, very solid guitar. - Thomas - 2013-12-26
I've just got one at 125$ (from 19156 also). It's written inside the body, - near the neck:"3675H928" - at the sound hole: "S-56-T made in USA" On the neck "Stella" (only). It sounds as I expected (loud and clear). It plays in tune. I am expecting to be able to convert it to lefty easily (the bridge is floating and symmetric).

This is a shock. I found this site while looking fr info on my Harmony Tenor. I found the Stella, same guitar my dad played when I was a kid. It even has the same yellow cord for a strap. This brought back some memories. Thanks so much. - Tom Horne - 2014-06-23
This was my first guitar, handed down to me from my father. You always love the first one, maybe not while you have it, especially if you were like me and wanted to play Ozzy Osbourne all the time! I would love to find one for sale, in any condition. - Paul Quaglietta - 2014-12-05
Mine is so very clean but the tuning gears are very stiff and rusty. I may have to replace them. I can't wait until it's playable with new strings etc. It is such a cool guitar. Thank you for all of info on this site. - Michael - 2017-03-27
I got this guitar from my great uncle. My grandma got it in high school. It was in great condition as it wasn't played very hard except the space for the low E string on the wood nut was worn down too much. I put a Grover nut on it and converted it into a lap steel style guitar. It sounds great and plays great and the best part is that it's American made. - Lew - 2017-06-16
I just bought a 1960 Stella Blonde Flame Banana Burst at a yard sale for $15. It's near perfect with just a very few chips of finish missing on the edges of the body. Strings are near perfect. Nothing broken, missing or worn out. I took it to a friend who is a professional musician, totally loved it. - Jack - 2018-09-29
I have a 928 that looks totally different...Sunburst and no pickguard. - Ben - 2019-05-19
My Stella H928 has alternating colors on the fretboard.. 3, 5, 7, and 12 are unpainted wood with black dots, and the rest of the frets are black. F61 stamp inside the body seems to indicate it was built in Fall of 1961. Serial # is 4736H928. The guitar sounds very creepy; I think it's the steel neck that gives it a sort of haunted banjo sound... I'm lefty so it's restrung as such, the only mod I made was very minor filing on the bridge and nut to accomodate the thickness of the reversed strings. I use extra light gauge strings tuned to 432 hz, and I've never heard another guitar quite like it. - Varfolameev74 - 2019-07-01
