Bought H38 in about 1957 (jr. high school). Played it for 4 years through Rickenbacker Amp. Fine slice of life then ... built my finger strength & callouses so that anything later has been a breeze. Kept it around at my parents in a bedroom corner until a couple of years ago when my son started toying with it ... corrosion had set in on pick-up so that came off. New hardware put on + modern strings and black/gold removed which yielded pleasant wood grains underneath. Basic sanding, sealing done but have not had time to work more on it. An instrument of the times ! Eddie Cochran type music, etc etc etc. - Russ - 2016-04-11
My father used to play this identical black and gold H38 and I'd like to freshen this old bird up and put some fresh strings on her so I can play with her. Is there anything I should do to prepare it for service? Example; oil or sealing??? I wait to hear from someone who knows more about this than I. Thank you for all who reply, Russ
