  I recently purchased one 1957 Stratotone Newport (metallic green). This thing has the biggest tone I´ve ever heard (comparable to a Gretsch Country Gentleman) though i haven´t still played an h44 (here in Europe, it's hard to find one of these guitars). I bought it to record an album, planning to sell it afterwards... but now, Jeez ! I think i'll keep it forever. The neck is awesome, huge as a baseball bat, and talking about esthetics... this is second to none. François, félicitations pour cette magnifique website !

  I had one of these in the Metalic Green back when I was a kid in the 80's and I'm sad to say I destroyed it. It had great tone and sustain. But I didn't know any better and chopped it up and now there's nothing left of it.

  I just noticed the Fender-type bridge on the green one that's missing the black plastic lining on the Harmometal. But you can see the ends of the strings, so at least the guy who did that didn't drill holes through the body and put ferrules in, too. I hope to one one of these soon.

  I am the second owner of a 1955 Green Newport and have had it for about 4 years. I have it set up for slide in low G tuning and it is a real workhorse for me both on stage and the studio.
  Kind of a one trick pony but the tone is great and it is a wonderful visual. I have guitarists ask about it all the time at gigs.

  I have an early 50's green model, which I bought 20 years ago for $200.00 mostly because I loved the look. It has since become one of my absolute favorite guitars. The fat neck, once you get used to it, is a pleasure to play and the tone is unbelievable. If you find one grab it, if you have one treasure it. There is no guitar like this one.

  I got mine about ten years ago at a flea mart for $15.00 At the time I didn't know any thing about it except I recognised the headstock as iether harmony or silvertone.Still don't know or care,it was originaly yellow but some previous owner painted it red.Even though it has a fixed bridge it plays in tune and the rock hard sturdy neck handles any string I throw on it.plays great!A lot of people think it's a piece of crap but it's my piece of crap...HA!!!Out of a collection of 24 guitars,(strats,mustangs,richenbaucher,w.h.y.)it's the last one I have left.Nuff said.

  Is it possible my white H42 is original? Cavity is white. Paint is old. No evidence of re-spray. I'd guess it's original, but I never saw another white Newport. Harmometal binding is missing, but the body is even the same old white in the open screw holes left around the edges. Any ideas? And does anyone know of a spare Harmometal binding for sale?

  I purchased my sunshine yellow H42 from a gentleman out BALTIMORE. HE HAD HIS BRICK SND MORTAR STORE IN BALTIMORE. BY THE TIME I FOUND HIM, HE HAD GIVEN|up the expense of a phsical brick & mortar store for a much stronger and well stocked internet store presence.if my memory serves me correctly

  Part 2. Continued sunshine yellows HARMONY NEWPORT SOLID BODY STRATOTONE ALL original in pristine like condition. I will pick uo now where I left off from my previous comment; ( Part 1.) I purchased 3 vintage guitars that night. A bright red 1966 "Airliner" ROCKER, A BLACK AND WHITE Chris Isaac model 1959 to 1963 which I loned to my son in Austin, Tex~~ AND ★♥ THE SUNSHINE Yellow HARMONY H42 SOLID BODY NEWPORT STATOTONE 1955 VINTAGE ?.I WAS DEPRESSED having just had a severe eschemmic stroke. My wife had devorced me, Took all the money from my joint checking acct. Which prior to that she persuded me to put my last 40,000 from mt SCOTTRADE ACCOUNT

  Part 3. Continued. My wife had the locks changed at our house BEFORE THE DIVORCE was final. (Which is illegal) It forced me to live in the nail studio of my day spa. WITH EVERY THING CRASHING down on me my wife took the last $10,000 behind my back at the worst possible time when I had trouble meeting payroll for my 10 employees. Three of them had been gainfully employed be me for over 25 years...

  I almost lost it when I found this H-42! In the early 1960’s my father, who worked for Sears Roebuck, brought it home from work and set it up as a lap steel guitar. He had taught lap steel before the war.
  I had remembered the bright yellow and the stacked volume/tone knob. I also remember thinking maybe I’ll be as good as Santo & Johnny.
  I’m 73 now and just picked up the lap steel again.
