My mother got this guitar when she was around my age (17) and it really hasn't been played for the last 20 years untill I started playing it about half a year ago. This guitar sounds great and plays easy. It still keeps up with all my friends new models they have, Yamaha, and Alvarez. I love this guitar all 33 years. - Wildhefer - 2007-02-15
WOW!!!!!!! I can't beleive I found out what model my old Harmony is. I got this Guitar for Christmas in 1977 when I was eleven years old. I have played it almost everyday for 30 years!!!! I just bought a new Washburn E/A, which is the first one since my old Harmony. I don't have a pic of it,but I looks rough although it still plays pretty good. It's like an old pair of Jeans, it just feels right. Thank you for this site, you made my day.

I got my harmony H6340 from my uncle. When I took it home I noticed that the lower bridge was busted up pretty good. The bridge had snapped in half and between the third and fourth strings, the plastic was completely gone. To top it off, the neck from over the years had become very loose. I went ahead and J.B. welded the bridge together and filled the void of the missing plastic. Next I pulled the neck apart, chipped away and sanded the old glue away, then re-glued the neck back to the body. I'm still waiting for the glue to cure. My girlfriend, Marilyn, bought me my Harmony 6340 for Christmas 1973 and I learnedpracticed for about 2 years. Married Marilyn, raised a family of three and now I'm an empty nester and now have tons of time to practice. I started playing guitar again a year ago, bought a Martin and a Tacoma Dreadnaughts and wanted a guitar to use for travel, vacation bible school, beach, camping, deck, etc. and went shopping and played Yamaha F335 (nice) and Alvarez RC8 (nicer) but I remembered I had my old Harmony in storage. Cleaned up the body, oiled the gears, restrung with Martin lights and Voila! Nice midrange tones, bass falls off quite a bit, but the 6340 has a good 'woody' sound. So many newer guitars (including my Martin D1) have a 'string' sound. Must be the age of the wood. I now have my 'knock-around' guitar from 1973 and so many memories, beside! Chicago made, USA made, man, I wish those days would return. This model must have been the lowest of the low budget guitars, but, sure beats today's budget guitars. Well made, too. (for a budget). I have rebraced three of these guitars over a span of about twenty years... The last one I did was last year at about this time... The top was split in several places, as were the sides and slightly on the back. I left the original "fake spruce" finish on the top on this last one, although I stripped and clear-finished the others in the 'nineties, leaving the "HARMONY" headstock logo untouched on them. Once rebraced, my H-6340 sounds like any X-braced, solid-wood instrument, and it ranks high alongside my H-162, which I also rebraced. I added my signature spruce cross-grain center-brace and a holly inlay-strip up the back center on all three H-6340's, along with an end-wedge like that seen on the Opus or a Martin... It seems that the H6340 had a final model-number "incarnation" as the H12176... I rebuilt what seemed to be an H6340 of all-solid birch, with the "faux spruce" grained top and "mahogany" or "fruitwood"(as per the catalogs)-stained birch back and sides. Upon further inspection, the model number was 0958 H 12176, rather than the expected "0958 H 6340"... The guitar was all-solid wood, as I took off the back to re-brace the top, and all the wood is solid... This does follow the pattern of the H6659 dreadnought being re-numberd with a similar five-digit model number during the last production period... Pine - CBChief3 - 2011-07-05
Picked up this H6340 a couple years ago at a flea market. It is in great shape. Just a nick in the vaneer at the bottom back and a small chip in the head top left from the back view. Some scratches in the back but the face is in excellant shape as is the neck. It is just a very liitle loose as you can rock it a bit. Top right screw bent but all else fair. went to the Harmony web sight. dissapointed they only accept emials from dealers.I would like to restore this guitar for my Granddaughter. Hope to find a site for info on how to restore. Harmony obviously only interested in selling it's knockoffs. - takuzo - 2011-08-17

I just bought one of these for $15! I was hoping it would be worth more but, then again, it's pretty beat up. Plus the person who owned it prior had sanded parts of it to repaint it. I definitely need a new bridge. It's all warped along with some of the top of the body... And the neck, haha. Purchased a Harmony Magnus that s different in some ways than the one shown. The head stock has a large H then Magnus on it. The guitar has an adjustable bridge on it.
Is this a later model of the guitar? Can anyone shed some light on the age of this one. Got the guitar for $29.00 so probably won't go wrong with this purchase. - Jim W - 2016-06-28

I received this guitar as a gift, back in the summer of 2005 in Lake George NY, but I never had the chance to thank the man who gave it to me. I am from Romania, but back then I was working in an ice cream parlor, during a work and travel program for students. One day this man entered the shop and we started talking. I found out he was a music teacher and I said to him I am also planning to learn how to play guitar. So, the man I knew a few minutes ago promised me he would bring back a guitar with him, next time he travels to Lake George. It sounded too good to be true and I didn't quite belived that, then. About a month later, the man returned to the parlor and left the guitar there, just before I entered my shift. It made my day, that day. I am playing the same guitar today.
