models H6364 - Sovereign
Acoustic flatop - Black with natural rosette
Production year(s) : 1972-1975 (other years possible, not verified)

New model number for the H164 from 1971 - Black version, with a typical headstock shape, of the older H162 and H6362. Headstock wears "Sovereign" in 1972 then "Harmony" in 1974 - bound then unbound neck/headstock.
The plastic layer on the headstock was poor quality and is often seen cracked, destroyed or missing. Not to be confused with H1204 black Sovereign.

I bought my black Harmony in the summer of 1972 for around $60 in Philadelphia.

My good neighbor/friend gave me this right after I ordered my Agile Les Paul copy (technically, it's my first guitar since the LP didn't come until later). The headstock was peeling, the pickguard had to be glued back on, the tuners were rusted (one was broken), it needs to be completely restrung, and think something needs to be done about the bridge, but I think with some work it will be a decent acoustic.

I have the recent Korean reissue of the 6364 Sovereign. It's got a solid spruce top, mahogany body that I'm not sure about, and a really nice slim neck, and closed back Kluson-style tuners. It's X-braced, though, and won't give you that ladder-braced tone if that's what you're looking for. On the other hand, it's available very cheaply on eBay and is really a nice sounding, resonant little folk guitar.

I bought this H6364 black in 1976 in Brussels, Belgium at a new store "Hill's Music", it was my first professional guitar. I paid it 10.000 belgian francs, say around 200 dollars.
At that time it was the only black harmony in Belgium !
I don't use it anymore professionally, having better guitars now, but it is exposed on the wall as decoration, and it brings me all the souvenirs of my beginning musician carrier.

    I have this model.
My parents bought it for me in the early 1970's. I loved learning folk songs (Cockburn etc.) on it.
The neck is a little warped, needs work, but is in otherwise good condition.
I noticed another Quebec owner on this site so perhaps this model sold well in the province of Quebec, Canada.

A very good friend of mine brought a Black Soverieegn to me and asked if I could take it to my "repair" guy as it had the neck screwed onthru thru the heel and also had a couple cracks in the top. I took it over and got a price of $150 to repair it, to which he said "Nooooo.....I only gave 5 bucks for it andd ws gonna give it to my niece to learn on, but too much $$$. I explained it could be a very nice guitar....but he didn't want to spend anything on it, and he told me if I wanted it, I could have it. I immeadiately called Larry Seigler and told him to go ahead and repair it. $150 later.....what an awesome repair to a great guitar. I am fortunate to have a pretty nice collection of guitars,(Martins/Gibsons/Silvertones..etc..) but this one ended up being my daily driver and lives in the hardware store my wife and I own. I love this Harmony guitar! A tone of its own, just to prove that any guitar can sound like itself if its allowed to! Great site, and thank you!!!

Rick, I know it's a bit late but I have one that I would sell.

By the desert, found mine at a thrift store 2016 for about $20. Head plastic Sovereign is missing just wood and tuning keys are rusted, but has new pair of strings and plays and sounds greatly unique.

Just picked up a c.1972 H6364 at a local auction, complete with chipboard case, and an early 70's "hippie strap" for only $10 this past weekend. As might be expected the plastic overlay on the headstock is in rough shape (cracking, peeling) and the tuners need some TLC. However, the guitar seems to be otherwise in good shape, so, with some work, I think I can get this Sovereign back into action.
