H6583 - Rounded jumbo

New model/shape in the seventies - New "narrow" neck has almost no trapeze (narrower thatn usual in upper frets). These necks may have been made in Asia - 1974 catalog says size 4 1/2 x 17 x 41 1/2 inches.

  On the lookout for a good used flat top, I fell in love with this model today at a local mall music store. No cracks, but a little beat up. Bought it without a second thought so I probably overpaid--about the same $$ as original list. (For comparison, I bought a used but reliable 1965 Volkswagen in 1974 for $250.) Yet this 33-year old guitar definitely sounded better than new Asian imports in the $5/600-range. It was near the top of the Harmony line in 1974: all solid woods, comfortable mahogany neck, adjustable (still, I hope) truss rod, pinned Gibson B-25-style adjustable bridge (and no ceramic base!). Good response treble to bass. Loud, deep, throaty quality with excellent sustain. Aged finish and good vibes. A sleeper in the vintage market perhaps, but I bought it to play, not to acrue interest!

  Many thanks to you for this site. I bought my H6583 at a second-hand store for $50. The neck was broken almost completely off. My girlfriend thought I was nuts for buying it. She thought it was junk. I took it home, took it apart, cleaned it up and reassembled it. I had to adjust the truss rod, (which still works) and did some custom bridge work to lower the action. This is a most amazing guitar. I had no idea what it was worth or when it was made. I had never seen a Harmony jumbo. I have a Gibson J-100, and this is the guitar I play. I love it!

  I have one of these beauties that I got for $250 in 2015. I just finished a reset and setup. the guitar is awesome. I was planning on fixing and selling but I don't think I can. it is just so cool and awesome sounding that I don't think I can part with it. When you think of the history and that it was Harmony's last gasp effort to stay relevant, it makes it even cooler. between this and the Opus, they really came out with some great guitars at the end.

  I bought one in '83. Sounded wonderful with a set of .013 strings on it. Excellent low end and very good projection. Used it a lot buskin' on the streets.
  Alas now in need of restoration.
