H71 - Meteor

Blonde version of the H70 single cutaway Meteor - produced only untill 1964 - H71 model number was later (1971) used for a different model, with large pickups and Bigsby. Most have a spruce top, but some were made with a maple top.

  I have a Harmony H-71 blonde semi hollowbody I resurrected from someones trash. The neck doesn't say meteor but is the same as one of your double cut away guitars. Is it the original neck? I thought that neck came from a Harmony rocket. Maroon color with a symbol in the middle. Would like to buy the neck that says meteor on it . Any advice. Thanks , Mark

  Great site!!This is the only other H71 I've seen pictures or otherwise. Mine is Bergundy and marked as being made in 1960. I also have the original case. Picked it up cheap here in London Ont. mgove@sympatico.ca

  Bought one - a 1960 blonde beauty. Sounds great, feels great, must be the most under rated guitar I have ever played. If you get the chance to own one snap it up.

  Hi, it's Gersom from Mexico I'm 24. I had just seen this guitars on magazines and read about them. I really never thought I could own one of these. Now, I have just got one and all I can say is that it's awesome. I have always had a Fender Strat and I have to say that my Meteor is just as good as my Srat.

  I have a 1961 (as shown). I absolutely love it and am glad I bought it. I had the case but sadly let the case fall into dis-repair. Great great great guitar, though. I play it daily.

  I have a meteor I bought in 1964 in London.It has always had a Bigsby tremolo and I played it at hundreds of venues in the late 60s through a Marshall 50,but since 1975 it has languished gathering dust.So the other day I gave it a really good renovation,hoovered the electrics and restrung with a set of Daddario and I have to say it now sounds FANTASTIC through a Fender hotrod deluxe.These guitars have a character of there own a resonant acoustic quality when amplified,must be due to the gold pickups spruce/mapel construction.

  Hi, would be interested to see photo of rogerbunny's H71. Sounds like one my Dad had and would have been around that time it was sold. It was fitted with a Bigsby.

  I have a blonde Harmony Meteor (stamp inside shows as model 28H71) that I bought back in 1990 and I paid $100 I think, maybe it was $75 cash. It was in great nearly original condition. I am a lefty and stripped off the pickguard and restrung and learned to play on that badboy. I still play it occasionally and sometimes prefer it to my Strat. Over the years I totally rewired the electronics, pickups, bezels, replaced noisy pots and stripped the neck and refinished it. It is one I can hopefully pass down to the next generation when she gets old enough to move up from her 3/4 scale acoustic. It is so easy to play strung with 9's and sounds great plugged in or not. The maple back looks perfect and the spruce top could easily be refinished to almost look new. I'll never sell it (but some of the eBay prices make me wonder).

  The blonde 1958 H71 was my first electric guitar.
  I bought it in Chicago, from a music store that i was taking lessons from at the time. Unfortunatley it was stolen from me in 1964 or i would still own it. I replaced it with a new 1964 Guild Starfire 3 which i still play ocassionally. The Harmony was a Chicago made guitar, and i toured the plant. i was 13 years old at the time. Lots of good memories.

  i also have a 58 h71, was also my first electric guitar and i was also around 13 but it would have been in the late 70s when i bought mine. havent had strings on it since 83. might just string er up and try it again

  My dad bought my H71 for me when I was 12 years old in l960.I love the fretboard and the guitar still has beautiful sound. Use Marten silk and steel strings through fender amps. Sounds fantastic. Play daily in basement and also with my l5 yr. old grandson. Owners of music shops love the look and sound from it

  My brotha won a bid on one of these from an ebay ad I sent him, got it for under $800 with case, it plays so good and has great tone, and if you can beleave it stays right in tone while using the Bigsby, it is a Honey burst, I have not seen one this color any info would be nice thanks.

  Just found out that my long-dead grandfather passed an H71 down to my uncle (I think it's a '61). I never even knew the guitar existed until last night when he called me and asked if I wanted it! It's seen better days, but I'm looking forward to the restore project and keeping this one in the family for many, many years to come.

  I have two Harmony Meteor models; One 1960 sunburst H-70 and one H-71 - ALSO SUNBURST - from 1962. Both guitars are in good shape, - no big dents, scratches etc. So are the DeArmond pickups (GREAT SOUND!!) Q: Is this sunburst H-71 one-of-a-kind, or did Harmony produce some in that color to - besides the blond "regular"?

  Strange. I have just looked inside my Sunburst 1960 Harmony Meteor and it's stamped as being an H71 model. Is it possible that some guitars were marked up to have a blonde finish, i.e. H71, but were changed to sunburst instead to fulfill orders or whatever? There seem to have been many more sunburst finished guitars produced than blonde.
