Interesting. I own a Barclay, given to me by my parents the Christmas of '68. "Barclay" on headstock and pickguard however the stock/mdl # is not BA53-3 but rather stamped "1616H53" (from the H53 Rocket I gather) with a "S-68 made in USA" next to it. Been a great fun guitar all these 40 years! I and my brother both recieved these red burst Barclays new for Christmas in 1968.

I have a Barclay h53 that is exactly like the brown sunburst pictured. A couple of days ago I put new strings on it and tried it out for the first time in quite awhile using a couple of small tube amps hooked up to 12 inch speakers, both with and without pedals. Wow --- I forgot how good this guitar sounds and how easy it is to play. I've had this guitar over 40 years now. I believe it cost $50 and I think I got it in 1969. I really like the simplicity of this guitar --- the DeArmond pickup with adjustable pole pieces is great. Also, mine has no model number or production date stamped in the f holes.
