when i got this guitar brand new (i was about 16) i couldn't believe my friend's reactions to it. some of them had gibsons, some had fenders, and others had gretsch's. they all wanted to play mine, because it took only the tenderest of touches to elicit the most beautiful and emotional of responses from it. today, at almost 40 yrs old, the only problem she gives me is a buzz from the worn frets that i have played to almost extinction. am i going to spend the money to repair her? you bet! the closest thing to her feel and sensitivity that i have ever found is a completely refurbished and updated fender jazzmaster at a guitar center in st. paul mn! considering my guitar was only $89.95 new and they wanted $700 for the fender, i'd say i got a bargain! - HNineTeen - 2007-09-14
Does anybody know how the Silvertone trem compares to the Harmony/Hagstrom version? I wonder the same about the pickups. The neck pickup is very weak on mine, but I can deal. Please post if you know also of a way to fix this without changing the pickup. - nico - 2007-10-02
i just got me one of these it has the red burst finish (like the above photos) and it is a 1966. really really AWESOME! i just got it set up and everything it is sounding amazing the only thing is the neck pickup is a bit softer than the bridge but i compensate by turning the bridge pickup volume higher than the neck so it is even. i switched out the tuning knobs and they are keeping it in tune (unlike the originals)but i am missing the bridge tone knob which is a pain because i cannot find a replacement anywhere. i was realy amazed with how well it plays and how good it sounds because i traded my total piece of shit telle for it. i highly recoment it to all it is an awsome awsome guitar at a great price! - Fat Panel - 2008-02-11
Just picked up of these, and love it. Both of my pickups are strong and loud. No missing parts, and original case. Frets show no wear and electronics are all in very good working order. Neck is straght, and fret board is like new. Very few dings, just a few on the botton edges. Amazing tone on these vintage babies! They play as good as any modern much more expensive guitar out there, including my American Strat, and my Gretsch Dou Jet. If you can find a nice one in good shape, get it. These are sure to only go up in value. - The Lone Arranger - 2008-07-11
I recently got a very clean example of this guitar - looks great and plays beautifully, excitedly plugged it in......nothing but the very weakest of outputs from both pups! Bummer! I also own a Rebel with the moustache pickups and A/Bing them its clear that something is very wrong with my Silvertone - I have to have my amp on 8 to even remotely hear anyhting. So its cool and pretty but totally useless, a real shame when it plays so well. I want to get it working, so any tips/help would be really appreciated: mtslawinski@aol.com - jpryts - 2009-09-08
I remember looking at this guitar ( the red one) in the Sears catalogue for 1964. I actually got it for Christmas that year. I know it was 64, because I was in my first band in that year, and I played it then. I also got a Silvertone amp, the single 12 inch with the cool tremelo that would pulsate blue when the effect was turned on. - The Lone Arranger - 2009-11-29
I'm on my second one now. The first was duff, no sound, it was beautiful though. This ones not as pretty, the sunburst is darker but the sound! The sound is phenomenal. The neck pickup is dark and sweet. I use it for recording. I can't beleive how good these guitars sound! It came with the original case, with 'safety belt'. Really really cool! - Dylan Page - 2010-01-03
Bought it 8 years ago to add to my vintage collection. Love the twang, sounds great in the studio but can't play it live due to the feedback. Nicely built guitar for the $125 I spent on it. very good sound for Hard Rock to Blues. I'm sure I will pass this one down. Keep it for another 50 years.
