H1415 - Patrician

Spruce top with mahogany central panel. Early models (-1950) have a fretboard with contrasting woods. Late models have a fancier headtsock with vine motif.

  I just bought this model from Ebay, but I thought it was an older model, because of the rosewood tailpiece. The number on the inside reads 1412H1415, can't find a date number. The headstock is laminated pickguard material but with straight lines in the middle (like a cross), not the vines (or whatever that is..) Block inlay on fingerboard. I was told the tailpiece, bridge, and fingerboard were brazilian rosewood (by a trusted luthier) but can't verify. I would love to date this guitar. I have some good pics to show.

  The wooden tailpiece usually indicates a war-period guitar (industry was missing metal at his time), so a 1944 model.

  I have one of these and it is an excellent sounding and playing guitar. Mine is a 1947 model but it has Kluson tuners on it instead of the normal stock models. I have heard that these models were actually made by Gibson...any truth to that?

  I save my 1260 from the garbage heap (free)had a bad reglue job on the bridge. I had it done right at my local music store whose repairman is more than competant. At51yrs old I decided to learn guitar and this instument keeps me practicing every day . (54 yrs old now ) It's nice to see I don't have to buy a better guitar

  I was just given a Patrician that is the same model as the one shown above. It's missing the pick guard and pick guard hardware, but otherwise all there. I put new strings on it and shined it up a little. The action is a little high, but all in all, way COOL!

  Yeah, I have this guitar and finally know what it is thanks to the serial number and this site and photos. I also have the original old pressboard case and electric pick-up. She's a beauty.

  I got mine circa 1947 from an elderly gentlemen in Toronto.
  Problem #1: One of the darker wood pieces on the center was higher than the other.
  Problem #2: Neck was too thick for me.
  However the sound was much better than my much more expensive jazz guitars. After feedback from a very well-known jazz guitarist friend, took it all apart. Found out the structural design problem (e-mail me at talafur@gmail.com, will send you pictures) sanded down the neck and fixed it for good. Took lots of time, accomplisment is sweet.

  I have a 1939 H1415 that's badged Marvel Deluxe. It appears to be stamped F-39, but the leading character is mostly off the edge of the brace and I can't be sure. The 39 is legible, however. Serial # is 3178H1415. Neck is detached and the heel is broken in half, but it's not mangled up or anything and is eminently repairable. I have a matching H1414, also from 1939. That one is badged "Sonata Classic," and is stamped S-39 and 2712H1414. Pickguard is missing, but otherwise appears to be all original. In decent shape; just some dings. As would be expected, it needs a neck reset. One day I'll fix them up and have a pair if inverse twins!

  Just bought an H 1415. I believe it’s all original except pickguard is gone as is the end pin. I haven’t set it up messed with the bridge, but it plays and into Nate’s pretty well. Even with the very crusty old tarnished black strings. I can’t find a serial number, but there is a black stamp inside under the bass side F hole that reads “ 5 - 48” should I believe that’s means may 1948 ? There is an old DeArmond slider pickup in the case. It. Shows a lot of honest player wear but no cracks, separation or repairs. Neck is straight and plays well(with 5 strings) straight from the estate sale. Where should I find the serial number ? Anybody want to make me an offer for this old beauty ?
