  I have the Harmony All American, a beautiful instrument. Mine is stamped S-40 on a paper label and 973-1492,couldnt find a bridge for it, had to make my own, nothing like the crisp sound of a carved solid wood archtop. I always thought the model was S-40 but apparently the model is 1492. thank you for this website, it must have taken a lot of time.

  I have the guitar pictured. stamped F-41. The H1492 is about as rare as it gets. Too bad they didn't use a serial numbering system.

  I have a Harmony American Hi-Hat arch top made during WWII. It has a blue cobalt head stock with American Hi-Hat printed on the head stock. The pickguard is white and has a Hi-Hat symbol in red,white, and blue of a Top Hat that Uncle Sam would wear. The body is blonde with a faux spruce top and tiger maple sides and back. The tailpiece is made from wood as all metals went for the War effort. Inside it is stamped H949. The neck is a baseball bat type neck, but it is fun to play and it simply looks cool. The fingerboard has stripes of red, white, and blue on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 12th frets. The neck joins the body at the 14th fret. The top has a trim of cobalt blue around the edges. I replaced the adjustable bridge and by doing this the guitar seems to sing again and has more volume.

  The Harmony All American is a later (post-war) version of the 1940's Victory model S-40 (which is quite rare). The Victory is similarly decorated with a blue "torch" headstock and blue celluloid bindings on the top (and nowhere else). It has solid wood top, back and sides, but has painted-on faux curly maple figuring on the back and sides. It's a more economical model than the All American.

  Hey there, I have an S40 All American Continental (Looks just like the Harmony, but doesn't say Harmony on the headstock. Can't find much information on it. If anyone knows where I can find out more, I would much appreciate it. Cheers!
