H1058 - Mountain cowboy

Stenciled mountain scene with a couple, the guy playing guitar. This H1058 was branded Bob West and distributed by the "Bob West Guitar co." in Chicago, as evidenced in a 1947 catalog. (it looks like the only model specifically branded "Bob West", other guitars in same catalog wears the Harmony brand).

  My first guitar was a Bob West stenciled western guitar. It had the western scene & "Bob West" decal on the headstock, written in a "rope" style. I got it from a school friend around 1957... but soon altered it by sanding off the stenciled western scene, in 9th grade Shop Class... varnishing it and paint the neck black with white frets to mark the divisions. (I wanted it to look more like a Chet Atkins guitar... being just a kid & into his playing. I still have it, but time and weather - it has come unglued. But, I keep all the parts hoping to maybe get it back together after I retire. Looked long and hard for a photo of it as it originally looked. Think I found it here. Thanks!

  I just bought one of these. It has "Bob West" on the headstock. The words are done in a rope design has a cowboy with guitar sitting on a fence under that. This one came with the original 1947 box and strap cord, which is twisted gold and green colors. The label on the box says Bob Wesy Guitar Company 1101 N. Paulina St. Chicago 22. Ill. M 1049. Very Kool and in great condition.

  I just purchased on 02/25/2012 a Bob West Guitar (from a local second hand store) in excellent shape with the stenciling and everything else completely intact. From the stamped numbers inside the body (following Harmony's standard dating convention) it appears to have been manufactured in the Spring of 1948. The model stamped number inside the body can only be partially distinguished but appears to be consistent with model H1058. The action is as expected a little high but the guitar still sounds pretty sweet as the wood is pleasantly aged.

  I was recently given a Bob West guitar with the cowboy and the lady stenciled on the body. The condition of the wood is nice considering its age. However it is separating in the front and back. Does anyone know the value of these old beauties? Thanks Bob

  I have a bob west. Guitar that was bought for my husband when he was a kid it came by train to pampa Texas in around 1950.it has the decal and bob west ham on the keys.

  I have my fathers guitars all 3 of them 1 is a newer electric and the 2nd oldest is a coya T-14 1963! But my favorite is the Bob West Guitar That is exactly like the ones in this picture so I assume it's a 1947 H1058 mountain cowboy guitar! It has no serial# or label inside it but it does have Bob West written in rope on the head stock! And the same stencil design! Just love to find out much more about it! Any ideas?

  AFTER 3 YEARS, I FINALLY TRIED TO RE-GLUE MINE, IT DIDN'T COME OUT LIKE NEW I HAD TROUBLE LINING UP THE SIDES BUT IT'S ALL TOGETHER NOW AND SOUNDS SOLID DO I'M GOING TO CLEAN UP THE METAL PARTS WITH SOME RUST REMOVER THEN POLISH THEM TO THE BEST I CAN WITHOUT SCRATCHING IT UP. I'M LOOKING TO JUST PLAY THIS GUITAR, SOMETHING TELLS ME IT'S GOING TO HAVE AN OLD TIME BLUESY SOUND, MUCH LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA OR CAJUN STYLE SLIDE SOUND THAT THE CIGARBOXNATION.COM HAS THESE DAYS
